Custom Woodcraft

Custom Woodcraft is a small custom woodworking shop devoted to designing and building customized 20140801_135520-cropped - Copy (2)cabinetry, casework, fireplace mantels, entertainment centers and other items made of wood.  Each piece of work is unique and receives my personal attention and care.  I work with every customer individually to identify and help them custom design exactly the piece they are looking for.  For most things I will then provide complete drawings to finalize all the details including materials, exact dimensions, hardware, method of construction and appearance.

For those folks that would like to do some of the work themselves, I’m happy to provide only design consultation and drawings so you can do the rest.  Maybe you don’t have the tools to cut all the pieces but would like to assemble the finished product; I can work with you to provide a “ready to assemble” kit.

Another of the services I provide is replacing rush and cane chair seats.  You don’t want to throw away a perfectly good, beautiful wood chair just because the rush seat is damaged.  I will replace the seat so it will be as good as new.  Hand  woven cane seats are beautiful in themselves.  Don’t let a damaged cane seat keep you from using an antique chair.  Let me re-weave it for you.

  1. Hi Adelaide! Thanks so much for your kind words. I hope you will visit often; postage/shipping may be expensive for furniture, but the information I’ll present is free!

  2. Hi Tom. I’m glad I found your site. I have a few projects around the house that I would like to get done.I really like your option for ready to assemble kits. I love working with things, but am definitely lacking in the proper tool department. I’ll be in touch. ~Jeremy

  3. Good morning! Thank you for website! Feeling lucky to come across your site as woodwork is on top of my “to do” list. So your website is bookmarked! All the best! Janine

  4. I love your idea of creating a ready to assemble kit for those without the tools for this. That would make these kinds of projects accessible even to me! If only I didn’t live so far away 😛 This is a great business you’re building here and I wish you all the best!

  5. ”i want to be your site when i grow up” brilliantly put, haha 😉 Wood is a wonderful resource to work with and this is a wonderful site to visit, thanks for sharing…

  6. Hi Tom
This is a great site for anyone who is interested in woodworking. But if I can make a small suggestion?
It would be great to see a post (or perhaps several) talking about the types of wood to use in different circumstances. For instance, which type of wood is best for using outdoors; or which type for damp conditions or dry conditions.

    • Thanks for the suggestion, Ray. I’ve been planning on adding posts about different species’ characteristics. I’ll be sure to include information regarding environmental conditions.

  7. Hello, I discovered your site at the same time as searching for a related topic, your site came up, it seems to be great. I’ve bookmarked it in my Google bookmarks.
    Thanks for fantastic info.

  8. Hi Tom,

I like your site but really appreciate the gmail I get concerning your tips and techniques. However I’m really writing because I have found using the HomeDepot order service super easy. It’s really nice because all I have to do is select the items and pay with my HD card. Then HD emails and/or calls me when my order is ready to be picked up!!! All I have to do is go to the customer service desk to pick it up. No running up and down the aisles in the store over and over looking for the items I need. I don’t have to wait in line either!!!! And best of all it helps your business. Thanks for this service and I hope you can add Lowes in the future!!

  9. Hi Tom really enjoyed reading your webpage. I was fascinated with the repairing a weaved chair. These old skills are dying out and need to be preserved.
    Great job
    Mark

  10. Your work is impressive. I’m sure it doesn’t only takes skills but also passion to do what you do. Congrats and I’m looking forward for more restoration projects.
